We need to prevent mining pollution from creating a problem in the first place

The Boundary Waters Treaty between the U.S. and Canada calls for International Joint Commission (IJC) engagement to safeguard water quality in river systems shared by the two countries.  As RWB’s Brian Lynch states in this op-ed, with the prospect of more mining looming over its headwaters, the southern transboundary Unuk watershed could use that IJC oversight now, along with a meaningful assessment of cumulative environmental impacts and the risks mining poses to another world class salmon system.
